WELL into his second year competing in the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, Md Fitri Ashraf Razali has his sights on the Wira overall title and will stop at nothing to realise his dream.
The Caviaga Modenas Cilik Racing Team rider is certain his target is realistic as he has had a good run so far completing three out of the first five rounds on the podium.
He completed the opening leg held in Alor Setar, Kedah in third place followed by his first win in Kluang, Johor (Round Two).
Luck was not on his side in Round Three in Batu Kawan, Penang as he experienced his first retirement due to a clash with Md Azhar Abdul Jalil of Motul Yamaha YY Pang.
Not letting failure upset him, Fitri went on to pick up the pace at the Sepang Circuit in fourth place and come Round Five in Kuala Terengganu, Fitri was back on the podium again in third place.
The 16-year old rider from Rawang explained his aim is achievable given his position in the Championship standings.
"It may be a bit early but yes, I intend to win the Wira overall title this year. I am confident it is possible because the gap between Azhar, Adib and myself is very close.
" I am just seven points away from Azhar (77 points) who is in the lead and just five points short from Adib (75 points) in second place," said Fitri who is third with 70 points.
When asked if he thinks assuming the lead in the standings would be an easy task, Fitri said: "Taking control of the standings is hard especially when up against talented riders. Maintaining it is even harder because a rider will be under a lot of pressure especially when the gap is very close.
"The only way to overcome this is by putting in extra effort and come to the race prepared physically, mentally and with a strategy."
